Pastor's Corner
April 22, 2018
The chart above is from a Gallup poll published April 9, 2018. Fewer Catholics attend Mass each Sunday, and the numbers of adults aged 21-39 who attend Mass has plummeted. These are the parents of today’s children. If parents don’t go to Mass, it is more likely they won’t evangelize their children, and, consequently, their grandchildren will be less likely to go to Mass, have their children baptized, or even believe in God.
We need to understand more about Mass, why it is important that we attend, and how it is crucial in our relationship with God. And it is clear that we need to shift our focus from maintenance (doing what we’ve always done) to mission – fulfilling the task Jesus gave us: to make disciples who love and follow Him!
(By comparison, U.S. Protestants' church attendance was not nearly as high as Catholics' in the 1950s -- but it has not decreased over time.)
