Dear brothers and sisters;
We make plans and God - and architects and contractors and building engineers - laugh. A few weeks ago I mentioned we would be starting the completion of the repairs to the second floor large room in the community center about now. The observant among you have noticed things are still quiet in the community center. An engineer missed providing some information on the ceiling repair, so our excellent building engineer is updating his drawings, which we should have in about a week or so, and then we’ll have to amend the permit we obtained last month!
In addition, the building engineer suggests that we add shear plywood panels to all the walls for greater structural integrity in the event of an earthquake. This means we may also need to amend the contract for repair we submitted to the Archdiocese.
While the structural plans are being solidified, parishioner Cheryl Santoro and Sr. Joyanne are working together with the architect on the interior design of the upstairs room. It will be a multi-purpose room for large meetings, lectures, day retreats, overflow Masses on Christmas and Easter, dances, concerts, movies, and more.
The heavy rains the Good Lord sent this winter, we discovered some leaks in the roof, which we repaired last month using some of the Building and Maintenance money we have built up over the years.
While you may wonder when we’re ever going to finish this work, the architect and contractor both assure me that when the work begins, it’ll move quickly. I’m told it’ll take about sixty days to complete the repair once we begin.
But there I go – planning again!
