Parish Fiesta News

Our parish Fall Fiesta is approaching rapidly, (September 21-23) and I am grateful to the wonderful volunteers who are hard at work to make it a success, particularly Karen Corletto and Dave Lear.  The hope of the Fiesta Committee is that this parish-wide event can be a great opportunity to bring us all together to celebrate all the good things that go on at St. Dominic’s.

About five or so years ago, Fr. Peter Rogers decided that the Archdiocesan insurance that covers the school should be transferred from the parish’s expenses to the school’s. In order to help pay this added expense without raising tuition, Mrs. Lujan and Fr. Peter decided that the Fiesta proceeds would go to the school.  Also, in this way the Fiesta income was removed from the general operating account of the parish, which is taxed 10% by the Archdiocese.

Last year more than 100 school families participated as volunteers at the Fiesta, and some noticeable improvements were made in signage, decorations, and music.  The committee is hoping for continued development, and I know they would welcome more help with organizing the event and with staffing the booths.

I am grateful to the members of various ministries that also help as volunteers and who provide food and work long hours before and during the Fiesta. It’s a great way of showing gratitude to God for our parish and the facilities we are blessed to have. 

This year, we will have a space in which ministries and groups can have materials to hand out to interested fiesta-goers.  This is an opportunity to advertise your group’s purpose, meeting times and place, and how someone might become a part of your ministry.  Start putting together a brochure or pamphlet if your group doesn’t have one already!  

I hope you take advantage of this opportunity to come together and have fun as a parish – and don’t forget to invite your friends and neighbors from greater Eagle Rock and Glendale!
